Since 1988, Iota Delta Sorority has brought women together in lifelong friendships.

Our sisterhood promotes individuality, diversity, friendship, leadership development, and community service. We, the ladies of Iota Delta, share this common bond to place school and education first while continuing to foster these founding principles and values as the premise of our organization. We inspire our members to be the best version of themselves while remaining true to themselves.

Our Story

Iota Delta was founded on April 28, 1988 at University of La Verne in La Verne, California. Twelve collegiate women came together to establish a Greek sisterhood organization based on individuality, diversity, friendship, leadership development and community service.

Iota Delta conceived from small idea; members strengthen friendships

BY ROSE GARCIA | NOVEMBER 4, 1988

“The memory is still fresh: four girls were at a party, talking about the possibility of a new sorority on campus. It didn’t sound too farfetched at the time. Jokes about a name, a mascot and colors turned into a serious discussion. Once surfaced, the idea never died.”

In the next few weeks, the same topic kept coming up in numerous conversation among the four girls as well as their other friends. The idea kept on growing, and pretty soon, 14 girls were meeting to discuss the real possibility of a new sorority.

Within two hours of the start of the meeting, a commitment was made by the women to each other, and Iota Delta Sorority was born. For the remainder of the semester, all the girls met on a weekly basis, discussing ideas and plans that lay ahead.

Fortunately eight of the girls lived close enough to each other to be able to meet on a weekly basis over the summer. Those who left for home out of the area were kept informed of Iota Delta’s progress through letters and telephone conversations.

Long hours were put in for extensive communication with only one goal in mind; to become a part of the ULV Greek system. By the end of the summer, that goal was reached. Who would have known then that in a few short months, Iota Delta would become champions of Greek Pledge Week for fall ’88. Let’s face it, friendships are rare, and people who can be trusted and who are loyal in return are even rarer. But through the hard work and long summer hours, a new form of friendship was born.

Sisterhood is easily found through Iota Delta. A variety of college women with individual values and backgrounds bring uniqueness to the sorority.

One of the great advantages of being involved in Iota Delta is the opportunity to live and work with a special group of women, who offers friend ships that last a lifetime. It is a special friendship, bonded by the common ideals shared among members, something all are proud of.

Sororities are made up of leaders. Many Greek women are outstanding in academics, community service, athletics, campus involvement and jobs. And in the case of Iota Delta, all of these ideas are strongly enforced. Iota Delta believes in commitment, which means once any of the members decides to pursue a goal, her sisters are there to support her.

Iota Delta has come such a long way since its first meeting in the spring of 1988. It has had successful fundraisers, parties and rush, matters that were only abstract ideas just a few months ago.

With the help of a more than generous member of the Greek fraternity system, Iota Delta has constituted its own by-laws and statements of purpose as well as a constitution.

Iota Delta has also involved all three fraternities, as well as non-Greeks, to become a part of the sorority through the initiation of “Iota Men”, four men whom the sorority feels present themselves in a matter worthy of ULV. Each of the “Iota Men” is involved in all of the activities that Iota Delta sponsors and supports.

One could go on and on about the values and meaning Iota Delta has brought on campus, but it may not be easily understood by all. It is a feeling one gets from her sisters or brothers, a security that has developed into an independence. It is easier to get through the tough times of college mid-terms, family problems, social problems or just needing someone to talk to.

The bond found through Iota Delta is priceless to its members. Even though the women all had an interest in one another before the sorority, as teammates, roommates or friends, becoming a part of Iota Delta made the bond stronger. Sure, members don’t always agree on every issue, meeting or event planned. But they do share things that no one else would ever know, even things they would be embarrassed for others know.
